Though one of the 20 busiest in the world, Honolulu International Airport (HIA) is surprisingly easy to navigate when you're island hopping or arriving in or departing from the Islands.
The airport has three terminals:
• Main Terminal, which services domestic and international flights.
• Interisland Terminal, which services flights to and from major airports on the Neighbor Islands, PLUS all Hawaiian Airlines flights (interisland and trans-Pacific)
• Commuter Terminal, which services propeller-driven aircraft traveling to smaller commercial airports on the Neighbor Islands.
If you are flying to the Neighbor Islands on a jet aircraft, you will depart from the Interisland Terminal building at the west end of the Main Terminal. The Interisland Terminal offers its own parking garage, and both major carriers offer drive-through check-in services (Hawaiian Airlines' drive-through is located on the ground level at the north end of the Interisland Terminal).
If you are flying with a smaller commuter airline, you will depart from the Commuter Terminal, which is half a block west of the Interisland Terminal.
If you are arriving or departing on a domestic or international flight, free shuttle buses (called the Wikiwiki) run between the main terminal and outlying gates every 10 minutes. Car rental companies are on the ground level at the east end of the main terminal's parking garage, and most offer free shuttles between the baggage claim area and their rental offices.
